 Filton Community History Group Minimize

Very sadly, Filton People Community Group in its current form closed down at the end of March 2008 and was no longer able to offer services.

Do contact Filton Town Council, Southern Brooks Community Partnership or South Gloucestershire Council's area Community Engagement Officer for help in areas Filton People used to cover.

Saving Filton’s History in Word and Image
‘Within each person’s memory lies the history of our time’

Cover of Filton VoicesThe memories of ordinary people are a vital part of recorded history.  Documents, deeds, newspapers, all play their part, but people’s own stories give the flavour of the times.

That is why Filton Community History decided to collect the memories of people who have lived and worked in Filton. Since 2000 our group has recorded over sixty stories covering childhood, leisure time, farming, wartime memories and, of course, working in the aircraft industry.

In 2003 we published an edited version of these stories, with photographs, in Filton Voices, published by Tempus Publications; and there is a shorter book, Filton Talking.
Since then we have published three new books,
Filton Stories Collection One, Two and Three

All our books are available at Filton Library

Filton Community History are also collecting photographs from all periods of Filton’s history, including family and social groups such as football clubs and street parties.

If you have a story, or photographs, which you think would add to Filton’s history archive, or if you would like to help us with our work contact: Jane Tozer on 0117 969 4378
